When and how old were you when you started your blog? November of 2008. I was 14 years old.
How did you come up with the title for your blog? When I first started my blog, I had just started high school. As with most teenagers of that age, I felt a bit lost and unsure of where true passion lay. I felt like a drifter. I wanted another word that would make an alliteration. After much brainstorming, I came up with gypsy.
What kind of camera/lens do you use? Canon 5d mark II with a 50mm f/1.4 lens (mainly for outfit pictures) and a 24-105mm f/4 lens.
Who takes your pictures? My mom, unless otherwise stated.
Do you edit your own photos? If so, what software program do you use? Yes, I do. I use Photoshop CC 2015.
How long does it take you to write a blog post? It varies! If I have a specific idea in mind, it can take as little as 1 hour. If I’m working on a more involved post, like an outfit post or something else that requires photo editing, it can take a few hours, and sometimes days, to compile.
Are you currently in school? Yes, I attend the Savannah College of Art and Design. I am working toward completing my BFA in Graphic Design.
You used to be a freelance fashion photographer. Are you still doing that? Yes, I tested with modeling agency models & shot a few campaigns for companies for a few years after I started Drifter & the Gypsy in 2008. I’ve since focused my attention in creatively directing/content creating for my blog & on a freelance basis. I wrote more about my shift in direction here. If you’re in need of any creative direction/content creating services/want my feedback on something, hi! Get in touch with me at email@example.com.
How do you manage your time?I am and always have been a morning person, so I try to get most of my to-do list done in the morning, so I can relax in the afternoon. Also, I get anxious and stressed out very easily, so I hate procrastinating and usually get things done WAY in advance. It’s all a constant work in progress, though!
Is your family supportive of your blog? Yes, they are. I think my dad likes every one of my Instagram pictures!
What’s your family like? Are they also creative? Much of my family is creative, but in different ways. For instance, my mom likes to paint while my dad likes architecture.
Have you always lived in the Bay Area? No, my family and I moved to the Bay Area in July of 2007. Previously we had lived in Connecticut.
Do you make money from blogging? Yes, all of the sponsors you see on the right sidebar pay for their monthly ad. Occasionally, stores send me items to review on this blog. I only blog about items that I would purchase for myself and would recommend to others.
I’m interested in advertising on your blog. That’s great! Please visit the sponsorship page and email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
How did your blog become so successful? No one reads mine I think starting my blog in 2008 before blogging became trendy allowed me to create & establish solid relationships with other bloggers who–like me–were just starting out. Write about something you are passionate about. It will show through to your readers. Another key is to comment on other blogs & social media. Don’t leave a comment saying, “HEY THERE READ MY BLOG,” but make it something genuine. Say something you liked about their post. Advertising on other blogs is another way to get people to click over to yours. You can always reach out to your favorite bloggers via email. That’s how relationships are built.
Is it okay if I post your photos on my blog? Yes, as long as you provide proper credit, plus a link to the original blog post. If you are featuring a DIY project/tutorial, please use only one photo, with a link to the original blog post.
How tall are you? 5′ 2 and 3/4″ (although I always round up to 5’3″).
What is your ethnicity? I am half Chinese from my Dad. From my mom, I am Italian, Scottish, French Canadian and Hungarian. I’m a mutt. 😉
What kind of dog is Aubrey? She is a German Shorthaired Pointer.
Your recipes are always gluten-free and vegan. Are you gluten free and vegan? Oh, labels! I try not to define myself by a label. I am gluten-free and dairy-free by dietary restriction. I occasionally eat eggs, honey, fish and meat but on a day-to-day basis I mainly eat gluten-free and vegan–not on purpose; I just love eating plant-based! I love the challenge of taking mainstream recipes and making them gluten-free, vegan and tasty! Giovanna, natural chef I collaborate with on the food column, is plant-based too.
Is your family vegetarian too? Nope, just me. Although they don’t eat much meat. They’re 99% gluten-free
I have a suggestion for your blog! Is it okay if I email you my idea? Yes, you may send me your idea for me to review, although there are no guarantees it will be implemented into my blog. You can reach me at email@example.com.
I sent you an email. How long should I expect to wait for a response? I get answer all my emails in the order they are received/importance. Please be patient!
Who created your blog design? A brilliant guy (and fellow SCAD student) Dylan Navajas Gluck.
What are you favorite blogs? You can view my blog roll here.
What is your favorite thing about blogging? The relationships I have cultivated with like-minded individuals from around the world. It also never ceases to amaze me how widespread the blogging community is. Also, the opportunity to touch the lives and sensibilities of young women that I may not have otherwise met is something I truly cherish.
